Project Description
When the 2021 Olympic Racewalk Event* was coming to Springfield, Oregon to take place
in downtown, our Chamber team saw an opportunity to highlight the city as the hospitable location that it is, + also an opportunity to step outside + celebrate our home + our local businesses, even during the still-somewhat-uncertain times that was 2021. We rallied together alongside other community organizations to create a welcoming experience for locals + visitors alike to plan a “hospitality” event* that would take place at the competition start/ finish line, + capture a fan festival experience.
It featured tables hosting representatives from local businesses + organizations who handed out goodies + held other fun activities, including the City of Springfield, who was there selling commememorative retro posters created by a local designer.

Work Involved
Our Chamber team resolved to create some limited edition swag to give away at our crew’s table, as well as host an activity table where kids could stop by and make an Olympic medal of their own to take home. With the goal of promoting our local region in mind, we decided to create an “I Love Springfield, Oregon” logo – to exist as our own version of “I Love NY” merch, but unique to us, containing subtle design elements representative of our region. I designed + delivered our final logo that was printed out as the shirts + stickers.
I also spearheaded marketing + branding efforts for the Hospitality Courtyard event itself.
Approach + Objectives
Regarding the “I Love Springfield, Oregon” design itself, the wave of the text invokes the essence of nearby Willamette River, while also looking similar to the shape of a shoe sole–
since the connection with track + field runs deep in our community, + speaks to the nature of the Racewalk event.
Our team had a great time that day, giving away over 30 shirts + even more stickers to cheering crowds. We were happy to be a part of this successful community event.
